Today Eleanor and I remembered that Laura's Grandma made soft maple candy with snow and syrup and we thought we'd give it a try too. I did zero research but it worked well enough (we did reread the chapter after the fact though -- Dance at Grandpa's). I put a small amount of maple syrup to boil while E collected a largish bowl of snow. We poured the syrup on and stirred it up. Then ate and ate and ate...
Then we made pretzels. Recipe in Homemade Fun.
The snow kept us all home today but actually Fran and I would have been home anyway because the poor kid is sick. I tried to make the day special and fun and still very relaxing and healing. I think I succeeded though she still is feeling rather crumby. Tomorrow will be another day of smelly baths, chest rub, time in the ergo, books, and naps.
