Matt took the girls to the museum this afternoon and I took a sunny day drive alone to one of my favorite thrifting locales. Here is a sampling of my finds.
*a lamp for my bedside
*a crocheted doily
*a Bennington Pottery mug
*a plant watering pitcher for the girls
*a set of strawberry note cards
*a wooden puzzle
I also left with two down bed pillows, three floral vintage flat sheets, three sweet pillow cases, two small old metal trash cans, a basket, and Superfudge. And I spent under $20. What a bargain!
I am not a big shopper but when I have the time and energy to dig through racks of old clothing and shelves of other people's junk, I really do enjoy myself. My mom taught me well. That woman can spot a vintage jacket, a house dress, or kitsch from the sixties from a mile away. She has a knack.
Even if I had a million bucks, I would still shop this way. It is good for the environment, it supports small business owners and keeps money local, aaand it gives a home character. Buying secondhand (or third or sixth) welcomes a little piece of someone else's history into your life.
