Our worms are here. Starting today, we are vermicomposting our food scraps and paper.
The girls and I picked these wiggling wonders up at Conroy's Bait Shop in Watervliet yesterday and set them up in their new home this afternoon. I made this according to the directions in one of our new favorite books, The Urban Homestead. The bins came from Target. They are small enough to fit under our kitchen sink and have a hinged lid for easy access (it doesn't hurt that they are bright red and green either). I am pretty excited about this project. I hope it works. There is a part of me that doubts the process. I have to trust the worms. Eat my potato peels and poop out good soil, little ones! I will surely thank you for it later.
Another project from the same book is homemade ricotta. Matt has taken on the ricotta and yogurt making recently. He stuffed cabbage with the cheese last week and today we ate a new batch on fresh bread drizzled with honey.
