Here is a sweet quick knit for this beautiful season.
What you need: a small ball of orange worsted weight yarn and an even smaller ball of green, a set of four size 6 double pointed needles, a tapestry needle, scissors
Pattern:
CO 6 sts. evenly on three needles. As you do this leave a ten inch tail, you will need it later. Join into round being careful not to twist the stitches.
Round 1: knit into the front and back of every stitch (12 sts.)2: knit every other round
3: k1, m1 *k2,m1* k1 (18 sts.)
5: k2, m1 *k3,m1* k1 (24 sts.)
7: k3, m1 *k4,m1* k1 (30 sts.)
9: k4, m1 *k5,m1* k1 (36 sts.)
11: k5, m1 *k6, m1* k1 (42 sts.)
12-15: knit
16: *k5, k2tog*
17: knit every other round
18: *k4, k2tog)
20: *k3, k2tog*
22: *k2, k2tog*
24: *k1, k2tog*
At this point, stop to stuff your pumpkin. I used wool roving but polyfil works too. Make it fairly firm but so it still has some squish.25: *k2tog* (6 sts.)
Cut orange yarn and change to green.
Knit one round then knot the two ends together and stuff them inside so there isn't a hole.Knit 5 more rounds for stem. Cut yarn and draw it through the remaining six stitches. Weave in the end. Your pumpkin should look like this now.
Now thread the tail at the bottom of your pumpkin and send it directly up through the center. Pop it through just to the side of the stem and then send it back down catching a couple of stitches. Pull firmly to make the pumpkin squish. Repeat this coming up on the other side of the stem this time. Back down. Knot it securely and weave in your end. Cute eh?This is my pattern so please be respectful. Fill up your house or friends' houses with them but please don't sell them. If you make any I would love to see them! The pattern is easily adaptable to make bigger or smaller pumpkins, just adjust the number of increase rows. Happy Knitting!
